Just to let you know...

Crisco is known for helping millions prepare food. Crisco has been helping make food delicious for years. Crisco shortening is multi purpose and can be used for all your cooking and baking needs.

It certainly is multi-purpose. This is a bucket of solid hydrogenated fat, not the liquid oil. I use it for cleaning my press rollers, something I learned from the multi-talented and now non-blogging Girlprinter. It works a treat! I haven't had a full lungful of Kero in ages. If you're interested, you can find it here.

As you were.

So that makes this a 'remember to breathe' post!

I wish I'd known this about Crisco on Saturday, I could have passed on the handy hint to the person I saw putting a giant can of it into her supermarket trolley.

The Americans in Alice Springs cooked with Crisco. The only place in town they could buy it was the Sex Shop. Most difficult for the largely Mormon or otherwise quite religious poopulation. They used to get a whole heap of orders together and go in groups.

I have 15kg of this in my laundry. I did a cake decorating course a few years ago and the woman who ran it used this stuff (or its local equivalent, charmingly called So-lite). She used to sell it to us amateur cake decorators for $5 per 500g and then she went out of business so I found a guy in Fyshwick (ha ha, I know what you're thinking) who sells it. But he only sells it in 15kg boxes. I bought it about four years ago and I'm not even half way through it. So, if you want some - and at this point I'm willing to give it away - send me an email. But it makes FANTASTIC frosting for cupcakes. 250g so-lite, 550g icing sugar, couple of tblsp of water, mix for five minutes.

If I can find a 3lb jar of it at Woolies I'll definitely get rid of the box in my laundry.

On hopping off a plane during a visit to San Francisco, and being asked by the reporter for a poem to mark the occasion, Ogden Nash is said to have said the following lines:

May I be boiled in oil
And baked in Crisco
If ever I call
San Francisco 'Frisco'.

I coat myself in this stuff for Channel crossings.

There's only one word for all of these comments: EWWWWWW

BUT I'll keep you in mind, Trish, and when I get my own studio (one day over the rainbow, maybe even by the end of the year), I might just get in contact with you. I'm sure you won't be making THAT many cupcakes before then.

If there's a chance you'll call, I'll hang onto my So-lite supply. Waste not, want not.

BTW just found this new blog via swissmiss: http://ampersand.gosedesign.net/

Thought you might like it!

This blog was supposed to be about Crisco, it really makes food delicious. Anyways Dr Mathew I will answer your question. If you are in UK, you can travel by ferries
to France on Dover Dunkerque route which is the shortest one.
